WHEELS EVENT OF THE WEEK: Choice vehicles shine despite record competition Area collectors win big at Cinci's Ault Park Concours For Wheels Saturday, June 16, 2007 Dayton-area car collectors took home a number of prestigious awards at the 30th Ault Park Concours d'Elegance this past weekend in Cincinnati. Rick Grant of Dayton debuted his 1960 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL roadster, and received the Chairman's Choice Award. Charles and Arlene Kleptz of Union also debuted their recently restored 1931 Marmon Sixteen and captured the Samuel Adams Award for Most Elegant Closed Coachwork. Dr. Ted Bernstein's 1930 Vauxhall Hurlingham Boattail Speedster was awarded the R.C. Fogle Trophy as the Judge's Choice. A record turnout of 283 automobiles was displayed on the show field under blue skies in the city park. In addition to the usual classes, the featured marque was the "Legends of British Motoring." Andy Manganaro of Xenia won a Best of Class in the Modern Collector class of the British Legends with his 2006 Aston Martin V12 Vanquish. He also received Best of Class for Contemporary Sports Cars with his 1972 Ferrari Dino 246 GTS. Robert McConnell of Urbana won Best of Class for Racing Cars with his 1970 Mongoose Offy Turbo Indy car, driven in the 1970 Indy 500 by Lloyd Ruby. Brookville's Larry Farrell captured the Best of Class for American Collector cars with his 1954 Hudson Hornet Club Coupe. |
