AAA Miami Valley sponsors Dayton Concours d'Elegance

The 2008 Dayton Concours d'Elegance will be held Sept. 14 from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Carillon Historical Park, 1000 Carillon Blvd., Dayton. The deadline to nominate a car or motorcycle is Aug. 1. The event will feature antique and classic automobiles.

The vehicles of Ford, Lincoln, Mercury and Jaguar are the featured marques for the Concours and will be displayed with other domestic and European cars throughout the 65-acre park.

The weekend will kick off on Saturday afternoon with a driving tour for Concours participants, which will conclude at a local automotive museum.

"We are thrilled that AAA Miami Valley has stepped forward as the presenting sponsor of this year's Dayton Concours d'Elegance," said Dayton History President/CEO Brady Kress. "They are such an appropriate partner for this project, and it highlights their continued service to the greater Dayton region."

Saturday evening's Track Party, open to the public, will be held from 6:30 to 11 p.m. Cost is $65 per person; reservations are required.

The Concours will feature live entertainment by the Classic Jazz Stompers and a variety of local food and beverages. All exhibits at the park will be open. Admission is $10 for adults, $5 for children 3-17, with children younger than 3 free. A commemorative program is included with admission.

All proceeds from the event will benefit Dayton History, Montgomery County's official historical organization. Comprising Carillon Historical Park, the Archive Center, Kettering-Moraine Museum and the Patterson Homestead, Dayton History brings the past to life to understand the present and inspire the future by collecting, preserving, interpreting, presenting and promoting the region's past.

Olds club hosts July 19 show

The Gem City Rockets Chapter of the Oldsmobile Club of America will host an open car/truck show at Quaker Steak & Lube, 3725 Presidential Drive, Beavercreek, on July 19. Registration will be from 10 a.m. to noon and will cost $10. Judging will be from 12:30 til 3:30 p.m. with awards at 4. Dash plaques will go to the first 75 vehicles. Trophies will be awarded to the top 25 plus manager's and participants' choice.

Scooters roll on July 19

The Gem City Rollers, Dayton's only organized club for owners of new and vintage Vespa, Stella, Lambretta, Piaggio, Aprilia, Buddy, Honda, Yamaha, Suzuki and other motor scooters and step-through two-wheelers, will have its fourth cruise-in of 2008 at the National City 2nd Street Public Market, 600 E. Second St. at Webster, Dayton, on July 19.

54th annual Antique and Classic Car Parade is July 26

The Antique and Classic Car Club of Butler County will hold its 54th annual Antique and Classic Car Parade on July 26. The parade will be a finale event of the week-long Model T Club of America Centennial Celebration in Richmond, Ind. Starting at 8 a.m., cars will be registered, judged and on exhibit at the Hamilton West Shopping Center, Main Street and Brookwood Avenue. The parade will start at 1 p.m., touring Fairfield where there will be a one-hour stopover and viewing before continuing on to downtown Hamilton. Cruise the 'Burg continues

The Miamisburg Merchants Association is sponsoring its second Cruise the 'Burg cruise night on Main Street at Market Square (enter at Ferry and Main streets) from 4 to 9 p.m. July 26. Porsches 2 Oxford expects nearly 300 German sports cars

Uptown Oxford streets will host about 300 Porsches July 26 during "Porsches 2 Oxford" from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. It is free to the public. A Sunday driving rally through Hueston Woods State Park also is planned. Members of Mid-Ohio Region's Porsche Club of America serve as hosts for this event. Charitable giving will benefit the Cincinnati chapter of the American Cancer Society.

This year's featured event sponsors are Tacoma, Wash.-based Griot's Garage car-care products, Rocky River-based Autobahn Extremist and Beechmont Porsche of Cincinnati.

More than $3,000 in door prizes will be given away on Saturday along with top-35 People's Choice and special category trophies. A 50/50 raffle will benefit the local chapter of the American Cancer Society in honor of Marylynn Roe, event cofounder, who lost her battle with cancer in 2006.

24th British Car Day is Aug. 2

Aug. 2 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. will mark the 24th annual British Car Day in Dayton, the largest all British show in the Midwest.

More than 350 cars will converge at Eastwood MetroPark, 1385 Harshman Road. The Austin-Healey Sprite will be the featured auto this year, in honor of its 50th anniversary. Entrants will compete for participant choice awards in 37 classes. In addition, the Ranger's Choice, Royal Air Force Award, Longest Drive and Best of Show presented by the British Museum of Transportation will be awarded.

While the cars are displayed on the showfield, there will be vendors with parts and memorabilia, a full-service concession stand and more than 100 door prizes for entrants.

Dash plaques are guaranteed for the first 325 entries. Day-of-show registration is open until noon and is also $15 per car. Spectators are admitted free.

The MG Car Club-SW Ohio Centre, Miami Valley Triumphs and Five Rivers MetroParks present the show.

Irish Club starts show

The Irish Club of Dayton will be holding its first annual Car, Truck and Bike show Aug. 9. Registration will be from noon to 2 p.m. Awards will be given out at 5 p.m. Entry fee will be $15 which will include a chicken dinner that will be served at 4 p.m. The Irish Club is located at 6555 Dog Leg Road, Butler Twp. Blue Star Mothers ride is Aug. 9

Rolling Thunder Inc., Chapter 11, Ohio will present a motorcycle ride to support Blue Star Mothers, which supports our troops, on Aug. 9 (rain date is Aug. 16). Signup starts at 11 a.m. and costs $10 per person. Bikes go out at 1 p.m.

AARP Driver Safety Program sets course dates

The AARP Driver Safety Program, designed especially for drivers age 50 and over, is holding classes. The course covers aging and the driving environment and how to develop defensive driving habits. Attendees learn about left-hand turns and right-of-way situations (the two major causes of crashes involving seniors) from course materials, trained instructors and videos. Moler Raceway Park schedules 3 DARF dates

The members of the Dayton Auto Racing Fan Club (DARF) have been invited by Moler Raceway Park promoters Kevin and Kim Moler to visit their quarter-mile dirt track on three occasions in 2008.

The facility, which opened this year, has scheduled April 26, June 21 and Aug. 23 as DARF nights during which DARF members will receive half-price admission to the grandstand.
